Gas Electronic Certificates of Conformity Now Compulsory - Paper Gas COCs Invalid From 1 April 2023
As of the 1st of April 2023, any Gas Certificate of Conformity (CoC) issued by paper will not be considered valid. The manual system has therefore been phased out and practitioners are therefore required to only accept electronic CoC's.
The change essentially comes in the wake of an increase in certification-related incidents of fraud.
This measure was put in place by the SAQCC Gas, to ensure accountability and safety within the gas industry.
The digital CoC was introduced in 2021 and is fundamentally in line with South African standards thus ensuring the gas industry remains one of the safest in the world.
The Process of Issuing a Digital CoC
A property that is unsafe may not be sold. This essentially means that the Seller is under an obligation to obtain a valid CoC before transfer of the property may occur. The CoC must be issued by a legitimate company, and must conform to the latest Code of Practice. Therefore Sellers and the Conveyancer attending to the transfer of the property should not accept paper CoCs after the 1st of April 2023. In order to confirm the validity of a gas practitioner's registration please visit the following website: www.saqccgas.co.za. Furthermore, Practitioner's registration cards can also be viewed onsite via the SAQCC Gas App. Any illegal installations may be reported to info@saqccgas.co.za.
The process of issuing a digital CoC is simple and convenient. In order to obtain the CoC, one may simply download the SAQCC Gas App and register. Technical support is on hand to assist with any enquiries. Furthermore, the CoC's are unable to be submitted via a laptop, only Tablets and selected Smartphones that meets the minimum requirement may be used.
